Too Much Democracy?

Is meeting with the voters always good?

Do voters have the right to interrupt town hall meetings with protests?

Town halls gone wild

Protests designed to embarrass members of Congress

  1. This is talking about how out of control town hall meetings with the people and meeting in a large group over issues in general has now become. People are chanting out harsh words and taking picketting to a whole new level. In the first amendment people are given the freedom of speech and the right to petition. I Believe that you can do both of these things in a tasteful manner. Not full-fledge inturrupt in the middle of a town hall meeting. I mean people can have different views. And they probably do now more than ever with the hard times and new president. But Congressmen are trying to get out there and speak with people to better the country and get thier word out and say what they want to do. And even take the peoples advice and opinions.I mean who would even wat to try at times and want to better things when everytime they try to spread their ideas they get bombarded with negativity. I think we should at least hear them out and not let it get to the point that meetings have to be stopped and congressmen have to be escorted to thier car by the police because the situation gets so bad and thier safety is being threatend.

  2. Many of the people in these meetings were not trying to turn this event into a full scale protest. Most of them were just trying to ask their congressmen and women questions about the bills they were voteing on on behalf of the people. The first ammendment gives people the freedom of speech to protest their government. The people at these protest were just expressing their displeasment with the way their congressmen have been representing them.

  3. Meeting with the voters is a good idea, voters should get to ask questions and get answers. The first amendment gives people certain rights, and two of those rights are the freedom of speech and petition. Those people didn't have to interrupt the meeting, they could have waited til afterward, but they have that freedom.
